PESHAWAR: The top court of the province on Wednesday halted the illegal trade of sacrificial animals with neighbouring Afghanistan.
This was directed on Wednesday by a two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Yasir Khattak, the counsel for the petitioner, argued that with Eidul Azha just a month away, residents smuggle sacrificial animals into Afghanistan where they fetch a higher price when compared to Pakistani markets.
After listening to the arguments, Justice Ibrahim remarked that the current economic situation was so poor that the common folk will have to resort to sacrificing hens on Eidul Azha.
The bench later directed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) inspector general of police, governor and other relevant authorities to stop illegal animal trade over the Afghan border.
